Introduction to Quality Improvement
Plan-Do-Study-Act
A framework called the Model for Improvement has been adopted by the New Zealand Health and Safety Commission, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and others. It starts with three simple questions:
What do we want to improve? The project team identifies the goal or aim of the improvement project. More information on developing a good Aim statement is discussed with the next section describing the Project Charter.
How will we know the change is an improvement? The project team establishes how they will measure success.
What change can we make that will result in an improvement? The project team decides what changes they would like to try.
Note these questions are answered by the project team. The team should be comprised of people or roles affected by the change.
